Students are increasingly turning to philosophy for good reason: philosophy trains you to become a better thinker and problem solver, which will serve you well no matter what career and life choices you make.  A broad range of employers now realize this, although it has also long been recognized that philosophy is perhaps the best possible preparation for law school and business school.  Philosophers consistently receive among the best scores on standardized entrance examinations (for example, the GRE --; the LSAT -- Average LSAT Scores and  LSAT by major and the GMAT), which further indicates the practical value of philosophy.  (Though naturally, if you want to withdraw from the rapid pace of modern life and spend your time contemplating higher things, philosophy can also be the major for you!)
